Shortly after the 2002 ILC, Dave Bakhash and others started talking on
c.l.l. and noticed that there appeared to be at least one other Lisper
in the New York area. Here's the original post:

The initial meeting was held the following month in November. Dave had
access to an office which would comfortably hold 15 people and asked
that interested parties email him in order to reserve a seat, they
filled up quickly.

The first meeting was great! Not only did the 15 invitees come, but
several others crashed the meeting causing it to spill out into the
office lobby. Everyone was surprised that so many other people were
interested in Lisp because so many were coming out of the woodwork.

We quickly threw together some infastructure (mailing list, etc.) and
started holding regluarly-scheduled meetings.
